Some names are chosen because they sound good. Others are chosen because they carry meaning.
MUOI was never meant to be a random arrangement of letters. I needed a name with value, history, and intention. A name rooted in life, not trend. One that carried something forward.
MUOI comes from my life. From my grandmother. And from where I come from.
In Vietnamese, Mười means the number ten.
In earlier generations, naming children by their number was not uncommon. To have many children represented prosperity, not just materially, but in life itself. It signified a family’s ability to love, care, and raise children with abundance of joy, resilience, and happiness in daily life. That understanding of abundance, richness without excess, has always stayed with me.
My grandmother was born in Vietnam and lived through war, loss, and displacement. Survival for her was not abstract. It was daily, quiet, and embodied. She eventually made her way to the United States and built a life in San Jose, California, where she lived with her children and grandchildren until she passed.
To us, she was grace under pressure. Strength without spectacle. Beauty in how she carried herself, not in what she owned.
She loved deeply and consistently. Her love was not loud, but unwavering. It lived in her presence, her care, and in the way she held our family together without ever seeking recognition.
What many people may not know is how fiercely she believed in becoming American.
Citizenship mattered to her not as paperwork, but as belonging, dignity, and participation. It was her declaration that this country, after everything she had endured, was home. Shortly before she passed away from cancer, she became a United States citizen and voted for the very first time, and the very last time.
That moment carries enormous weight for me.
Like her, I was not born in America. But I am an American citizen through and through, heart by heart. English is my first language. I assimilated fully into this culture while still respecting and honoring my heritage. For me, assimilation was never about erasure. It was about belonging with integrity.
I have always wanted to be like her. To carry myself with the same quiet confidence, resilience, and grace. To build with care and intention. To honor where I come from while standing fully in who I am.
MUOI holds all of that.
When I look at the name MUOI, I don’t see a logo. I see lineage. I see strength and softness existing together. I see why shortcuts never felt right to me, why craftsmanship matters, and why this brand could never be about speed, trends, or excess.
MUOI is about care. About continuity. About creating something worthy of being passed down.
Every time I see the name MUOI, I feel pride, belief, and encouragement to build a great legacy. Not only in her honor, but for my family, for those who knew her, and for those who will come to know this name and what it represents.
This brand is not just named after love. It is built from it.
